Rings Offer a Little Bling to Any Look
Rings are an important part of anyone's jewelry. It is hard to ignore someone's rings, especially as they rarely change and carry some major symbolic importance. They show what is important to the person who wears them, be it weddings, schools, or various affiliations. While necklaces tend to be hidden and earrings keep changing, rings pretty much stay the same; thus you can tell a lot about the person from their rings more than any other piece of jewelry. This makes them virtually an integral part of the person. Even a simple gold band can tell a lot about a person and a collection of rings can tell a whole different story. As such it only behooves people to know the basics of the major types of rings.
1 - Wedding and Engagement Bands
Simple rings made of gold and silver respectively show that a person is married or bound to be married. While some pair the wedding band with a diamond ring, it is not necessary, and sometimes that wedding ring is either left at home or carried on a simple necklace. The bands themselves are usually pure gold or silver, the purity, and the shape implying a pure relationship that will last forever. Traditionally, these rings are worn on the ring finger of the left hand.
2 - Class Rings
These rings tend to be ornate affairs, emblazoned with the school mascot, a school motto, and the year the person graduated. They also tend to feature the birthstone of the person who wears the ring. Of course, this is a general class: The ring can show any experience that the person graduates from, such as the military, various organizations, and any number of other milestones that a person is involved in.
3 - Birthstone Rings
Usually a simple ring with a single gemstone, that single gemstone is linked to the month of the person wearing the ring. While one of the simpler rings, that little bit of information can tell a little about the personality of the wearer if one believes in astrology. Of course, some may wear an actual astrological ring, with the wearer's astrological sign where the gem would normally be.
4 - Promise Rings
Some people make various promises and oaths, and do not mind pronouncing those to the world. These rings are usually simple bands, sometimes with some indicator of the promise or oath. While they are usually gold or silver, they can be reasonably differentiated from wedding and engagement bands as they are not worn on the same finger, although there are exceptions.
5 - Solid Metal Rings
There are a few rings of thick metal, such as titanium, platinum, or even silver and gold. As the point is to show off how strong the person is, these rings are less artistic and more just thick. While some rings do have some artistic flair, usually with some callback to a group considered brave or heroic, such as samurai, various tribes, and even Vikings, most are simple affairs.
6 - Crystal Rings
Some people are looking for ways to simply get better or ward off disease; these rings are usually silver fitted with an uncut stone and possibly runes or other simple designs. The crystal may be of any variety, usually one meant to affect a specific disease or general health. These are usually worn by those with Wiccan or New Age beliefs, but some are presents.
7 - Artistic Rings
Some rings are just meant to be fancy, and look the part. These rings can be beautiful, whimsical, or even both, and can show a lot about the person who wears them and what they hold to be important. They can be traditional rings, puzzle rings, or even rings that look like animals on the fingers, but they are works of art that catch the fancy of the person wearing them, making them an excellent indicator of their personality.
