The cardigan is a fairly old piece of clothing. It first became popular in the ninth century, where Scottish shepherds wore it to keep warm. The name "Cardigan" comes from James Thomas Brudenell, the seventh Earl of Cardigan. He led the Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War and wore this type of clothing.

The cardigan made its way to America in 1854 and was first worn by sailors. After World War II, however, the cardigan became a staple of American fashion. So if you're looking for that perfect vintage feel, then go with a cardigan!

Cardigan Styles

There isn’t a single type of cardigan out there. In fact it comes in several different styles. Some of the most popular include:

  1. The Open Front, Button-down Type - These are great with dresses or skirts because they cover your lower body and show just a hint of skin. Depending on the colors you choose, they can go anywhere from formal to casual.
  2. The Cropped Cardigan - This works exceptionally well with dresses so that you can have space between the bottom of the dress and your waist. It is also great with tights or jeans. Cropped cardigans are one of my favorite pieces.
  3. Full-length Cardigan - This type of sweater will cover up any part of your body that you want, so choose wisely! You can use it as a cover-up or as an extra layer, but this cardigan is more on the casual side.
  4. Cardigan with a Hood Attached - This one works great with dresses because it acts as both an accessory and a way to dress up your outfit. You can wear it with jeans, skirts, or even shorts.

Cardigans also come in a variety of shapes and patterns. For example, you can go with one that is V-necked or scoop-necks. This works great with your favorite tank top! Some cardigans even have ruffles attached to them, which makes them feminine and fun.
